Management of Ewing Sarcoma: Current Management and the Role of Radiation Therapy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) are a group of small round cell tumors showing varying degrees of neuroectodermal differentiation with Ewing sarcoma being the least differentiated. Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNET) show neuroectodermal differentiation by light microscopy, immune histochemistry (IHC) or electron microscopy [1]. According to WHO classification of bone and soft tissue tumors, Ewings sarcoma/PNET is synonymous with Ewing tumor, peripheral neuroepithelioma, peripheral neuroblastoma and Askin tumor [1]. In most of the patients, a chromosomal translocation leads to the expression of the EWS-FLI1 chimeric transcription factor which is the major oncogene in this pathology [2].

Ewing Sarcoma: Focus on Medical Management
The management of Ewing sarcoma has evolved over the last few decades with successive improvement in survival rates. Multidisciplinary management is the key to successful outcomes. Dose intensity of chemotherapy is of vital importance. Local control can be effectively achieved with surgery, radiation therapy or a combination of the two. The choice of appropriate local therapy should be individu...

Background: Ewing Sarcoma Family of Tumors (ESFTs) is the second most common primary tumors of bone in childhood. The decision regarding the optimal modality for achieving local tumor control remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to report the clinical features and outcome as well as reviewing risk factors in patients. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 75 ESFTs pat...

In the present study, a case was reported concerning a patient with a bulky extremity soft tissue sarcoma treated with spatially fractionated Grid therapy and then followed by standard external beam radiotherapy. Treatment was performed using a Grid block to deliver 15 Gy in one fraction. There was one week interval break before EBRT treatment with 50 Gy in 25 fractions for the neoadjuvant exte...

Background: Primary malignant bone tumors are heterogeneous groups of neoplasms, which affect mainly children and adolescents. The most common types are Osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma and chondrosarcoma. Elevation of sCD30 and sCD40L has been observed in lymphoma, leukemia and autoimmune disorders.
